Excursion "Welcome to a noble manor"

Sometimes silently counting the years and observing the change of eras, the wooden manors of Lithuania still stand – as if living witnesses of the past, where footsteps sounded, conversations took place, tea smelled and music echoed. Once they were significant centers of culture and community – today many of them are disappearing, sinking into oblivion. However, some are still alive, open and inviting us to visit them.

The educational excursion “Welcome to a nobleman’s manor” invites you to discover one of such unique places – Kuršėnai Manor. This is the only surviving manor in Lithuania that had the right of fief. Its history is intriguing and significant, and the surviving architecture is a true pearl of wooden decoration. During the excursion, participants will get acquainted with the history of the manor, the lifestyle of the noblemen who lived here, the exterior and interior architecture of the building, its authenticity, and decorative elements. We will visit permanent exhibitions: Laurynas Ivinskis’ office, a collection of old calendars, the works of the Lithuanian Potter Kings, and an exhibition of clogs, which – oh yes! – you will be able to try on.

This excursion is an invitation to touch the history of Lithuania, to look at the architectural heritage as a living, important part of our identity. For young people, it is a great opportunity to feel the spirit of the manor and understand why it is worth loving and protecting what has been created for centuries.
